Fellow nurse practitioner friends,

I am proud to tell you that our bill "Nurse Practitioner Amendments" has been numbered HB 336

Track the progress of HB 336 using our Bill Tracker.

Encourage your legislatures and collegues to support HB 336.

Nurse Practitioner talking points and handouts have been attached to this announcement. As many of you may have noticed, the Nurse Practice Act has needed some technical amendments. These include removal of the obsolete language for checking the controlled substance database and Workers Compensation language. Now, ALL PRESCRIBERS are required to check the controlled substance database. In addition, insurers now can establish guidelines on opioid prescriptions to ALL PRESCRIBERS. So it was needed to remove this language from our Nurse Practice Act.

Another technical amendment, improves access to primary care services by removing the barrier of a consultation and referral requirement for the first 2 years/2,000 hours for schedule II medications. Nurse practitioners have always and will continue to consult and refer patients as appropriate. A consultation & referral plan provides NO ADDITIONAL BENEFIT that it improves patient safety. Decades of research show that nurse practioners provide excellent patient outcomes. Nurse practitioners already have a non-restricted DEA license to prescribe schedule II medications. It impedes competition, creates barriers and is an unncessary regulation.

So please encourage your legislatures to vote "YES on HB 336"!
