Following the successful legislation in 2022 that removed the Consultation and Referral Plan language, UNP is excited to present the NPACT (Nurse Practitioner - Access to care Together) Initiative 2023 sponsored by Senator Bramble and Representative Maloy. The NPACT aims to remove the remaining new-graduate solo-practice that is a barrier to practice. This currently limits schedule II controlled substance prescribing unless a mentor is identified.

DID YOU KNOW???

  1. Your legislators may have changed: The 2020 Census re-districting means that you need to look up your senator and representative again. Click HERE (2 minutes) to find your legislators and their contact information by entering your address (at the top).
  2. Legislators pay attention to people who are respectful and helpful: Please ask to be their healthcare legislation resource. You have experience and awareness of issues that can burden the healthcare system. Highlight what you do as a NP. Get to know them. If you disagree on a policy, please agree to discuss other issues.
  3. You can make an impact: Simply make that quick call/text/email to introduce yourself and invite them to work with you for an hour or two (3-5 minutes). Ask them to support and co-sponsor the NPACT bill.
  4. UNP has a template for you: Just copy and paste the template (see attachment) and send (3-5 minutes). Bonus points if you personalize it a little. Extra credit for doing all 4 things!

We will discuss current issues and bills in Utah at this general meeting. UNP is collaborating with organizations like UNA, AANP, UAPA, and several others. We have a line-up of legislators that have been invited to speak to Utah NPs about bills/legislation they are sponsoring and how it may relate to your practice. Please join us for this very special occasion!

Best,

The UNP Legislative Co-Chairs and Committee
